Mystical Music from Middle East & Northern India

  • ABOUT QADIM: Named after a word found in both Arabic and Hebrew meaning "Eastern Wind," Qadim specializes in recording and performing modern interpretations of ancient mystical music of the Near East. Since first forming in 2006, the group has quickly built a standing room only following throughout the Bay Area and beyond by bringing together Indian, Iranian, Jewish, Moroccan and Syrian musicians to celebrate the common musical and spiritual heritage of the now troubled region's ancient cultures.
  • ABOUT ELIYAHU: After studying jazz in New York, I fell under the spell of Sufi music and became a student of the ney, the reed flute of the Middle East, and the bansuri, the bamboo flute of India. In 2006, I made a 4-month pilgrimage to Turkey in search of a living ney master and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study under Neyzen Omer Erdogdular and Neyzen Ahmet Kaya. My musical styles span the globe. I have performed and recorded vibrant sacred music of the Middle East with Za'atar, West African folk music with the Palm Wine Boys, soul roots reggae with the Original Intentions, acoustic soul with Sparlha Swa, and revolutionary Hip-hop with Rebels Advocate. I love performing for and teaching music to young people and have taught at The Mosaic Project and Omega Teen Camp.
